OUR WORKSHOPS

In coordination with the community gardens, the LFI coordinates the Garden Guru Series from spring to fall; a series of workshops hosted by local experts on garden-related and food-gathering techniques. This series is open to the public and is well attended by a variety of Revelstoke residents. Every year brings new topics and presenters to learn from.

The 2026 workshop series will include “garden guru” education as well in-the-kitchen skills.

LET’S LEARN ABOUT FOOD & GARDENING.

At the core of the LFI mission is education. We want to provide you with the tools to learn how to grow your own food, and redefine your relationship with the food that you eat.

This includes:

  • Garden workshops.

  • Kitchen skills workshops.

  • Film viewings.

  • Community panels and discussions.

Past workshops have included mushroom foraging, kombucha making, canning and preserving and gardening best practices.

All workshop fees are donations to the Local Food Initiative to support us in executing our food security education.

NATURAL DYEING WITH JAMIE KRAUS (Food Commons)

Natural Plant Dying Workshop: Day 1
Join us at the Food Commons for a community gathering to explore the art of natural dyeing. Together over the course of two afternoons, we'll harvest invasive plants from our local landscape and use them to dye fabric. With discussions hosted by local Indigenous Knowledge Keepers and in collaboration with the Columbia Shuswap Invasive Species Society, the gathering weaves together land stewardship, creative making, and community connection, and invites us to reconsider the stories we tell about plants and place. Participants will learn to identify invasive plants and harvest with intention, try their hand at natural dyeing, and sew a set of bunting flags that will live permanently at the Food Commons. Space is limited to 30 participants. Ticketed on a pay-what-you-can basis.

WHERE: Food Commons (1495 Powerhouse road)
