OUR WORKSHOPS

In coordination with the community gardens, the LFI coordinates the Garden Guru Series from spring to fall; a series of workshops hosted by local experts on garden-related and food-gathering techniques. This series is open to the public and is well attended by a variety of Revelstoke residents. Every year brings new topics and presenters to learn from.

The 2026 workshop series will include “garden guru” education as well in-the-kitchen skills.

LET’S LEARN ABOUT FOOD & GARDENING.

At the core of the LFI mission is education. We want to provide you with the tools to learn how to grow your own food, and redefine your relationship with the food that you eat.

This includes:

Garden workshops.
Kitchen skills workshops.
Film viewings.
Community panels and discussions.

Past workshops have included mushroom foraging, kombucha making, canning and preserving and gardening best practices.

All workshop fees are donations to the Local Food Initiative to support us in executing our food security education.

UPCOMING WORKSHOPS

So your garden has “gone to seed”, now what?

Join the Food Commons and the Revelstoke Local Food Initiative for an hour-long talk on seed sovereignty and seed saving. At its heart, seed sovereignty is a simple idea: seeds, and the knowledge that comes with them, should stay in the hands of communities and the gardeners who tend them. We'll explore why that matters (for biodiversity, for culture, and for Revelstoke's own growing conditions) before digging into the practical side of saving seed from your own garden. You'll learn which plants are easiest to start with, what "growing true to type" means, and how to avoid some common mistakes. No experience needed!
