Micro Growers - Youth Summer Day Camp Programming

Calling all Revelstoke youth who want to spend the summer learning about local food and getting their hands really dirty!

The Revelstoke Local Food Initiative's summer camp program is back for another year, and provides an engaging and educational experience for youth interested in learning about local food, our natural environment and agriculture. Each week campers will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities, including:

  • Gardening: The campers will learn about local food growing, and care for a local garden that will produce food to be donated to the local food bank.

  • Farming: We will have the opportunity to learn about our local farmers and how they

  • Foraging: The campers will learn about what foraging is and how it can be a part of food sources.

  • Learn about the importance of bees and other pollinators.

  • Explore the world of composting and waste reduction, and how it relates to a sustainable lifestyle.

  • Campers will learn how they can make a positive impact on the environment.

  • Creativity: Campers will participate in creative activities, games and art projects that relate to local food.

The program is led by an experienced and engaged instructor who is passionate about sharing their knowledge and love of local food with the next generation. By the end of each week, campers will have a deeper understanding of where their food comes from and how they can make healthy and sustainable choices. Attend one week, or all four!

Age group: 6-10 years old

The camp will run from 9AM-4PM on the following weeks:

Week 1: July 8th-12th 2024

Week 2: July 15th-19th 2024

Week 3: July 22nd-26th 2024

The camp location will depend on the theme of the week (based on seasonal timing), but will bounce between the community gardens, local farms and out at Macpherson. The camp is planned to be an outdoor camp, however there is an indoor weather plan for days that are too warm, heavy rains or if the skies are smoky.

We will only be accepting 12 participants per camp. If upon completing this registration, the Pay option brings you to a waitlist, this means that unfortunately all spots are full. Please fill out the waitlist as we are hoping to accommodate as many families as possible. This camp will have 1 Coordinator and 1 teen volunteer per 12 children, if this situation will not meet the care needs of your child please contact us.

We will not be offering any refunds after payment has been confirmed, unless there are extreme situations.

We will be sending out our handbook to all registered participants which will explain all of our policies. Parents/guardians will be sent a camp itinerary the week prior to their camper attending with a schedule of events and themes so that you will know what to expect going into the week.
