Bokashi Composting 101

  • 817 McKenzie Avenue Revelstoke, BC, V0E Canada (map)

As another of our Garden Guru events, we are excited to offer a 1 hour, hands-on workshop with Theresa McGeragle that will lead you through the steps to making your own Bokashi Compost System.

This is a highly effective composting system that suits everyone's needs and can compost every food scrap you have and fast. Whether you live in an apartment or you have animal visitors to your compost pile, or perhaps you just never seem to manage your traditional compost pile enough for it to produce the good dark digested compost for your garden. This is a way to guarantee a nutrient rich garden input from your food scraps.

The Bokashi method involves layering kitchen scraps (vegetables and fruits, as well as meat and dairy scraps) with a Bokashi inoculant in a special 2 bucket system. We are planning to provide this inoculant for those who attend so you can leave with your own Bokashi composting set-up and give it a try! We simply need you to RSVP to gardenguru@revelstokelocalfood.com to let us know you will be there.

Theresa has been composting this way for 14 years and has tweaked her methods to suit her moves from apartment to a house with a backyard. She is hosting us in her backyard for a quick 1 hour run-though of her system so save the date October 2nd at 5pm to come and learn something new!
