Traditional Cedar bark harvesting w/ Remey Lacombe

  • Mount MacPherson, Nordic Lodge 2265 Highway 23 South Revelstoke, BC Canada (map)

When: May 20th 5:00-7:30om

Where: Revelstoke Nordic Center

Join us on May 20th for a hands-on cedar bark stripping workshop at the Mount Macpherson Rec Site, led by Sinixt knowledge-keeper Remey Lacombe. Last fall, Remey helped build a traditional Sinixt smokehouse at the Food Commons. The cedar harvested on this day will be used to finish it, forming the roof and cover for the smokehouse. This is a rare opportunity to learn a traditional skill directly from someone who carries it, while contributing to a living, ongoing project rooted in Indigenous foodways and community. Meet at the Revelstoke Nordic Centre at 5:00pm. This event will involve a short walk in the forest, some come prepared with water, appropriate clothing and footwear, and a snack.
